Since 1988, the Regional Reporters Association has been helping reporters who work in Washington for news organizations around the country navigate the halls of the Congress, make contacts, meet cabinet officials, figure out the budget process and a variety of other things. Whether in a one-person Washington bureau or on a team of regionals that cover a specific state, RRA helps its members figure out how to best cover the federal government.
RRA's wonderful attorney Kevin Goldberg has come up with some legal language to protect our blog postings. Please read our terms below!

I wrote a story about a mine accident.
Here's one I did that another regional might have fun with on members of Congress who use social networking sites. It's easy to go through sites like Facebook and see if your members use it or not. Enjoy!

Recess has been super slow. Am working on a profile of a new member, and last week wrote about how a senior member is donating a lot of his papers to a local school. Went through Taxpayers For Common Sense website yesterday (www.taxpayer.net) that has some earmarks listed, might do that sometime soon.
Here's a great one from Deb Price of the Detroit News examining the new ban on putting spouses on the campaign payroll & accompanying disclosure rules for other relatives. She's hoping other regionals will dig in even further!

The Senate Finance and Indian Affairs committees have now both passed a reauthorization of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, which expired in 2001 and Congress has been trying to reup ever since... if you have tribes in your state, might be worth looking at.
